Sarah Grossman, MS PT, has been working as a PT since 1981 in a variety of settings that include hospitals, schools, camps, private clinics and the home. She also was a physical therapist in the Peace Corps in Paraguay (1983-1985), working with disabled children and their families, and since then, has done various trips to Spanish speaking countries to provide short-term therapy services and training.  She has been in Port Townsend since 1999 and currently, works at Jefferson Healthcare and the Chimacum School District. As someone who enjoys the outdoors and sports, she feels it is important to include all children in as many recreational activities as possible.

JUMP! Jefferson Universal Movement Playground was formed in the Spring of 2016, after the Chimacum School Bond failed, which would have helped create an accessible playground at the Pre-School for a number of non-ambulatory students.  Sarah Grossman, MS PT and Sarah McNulty, OTR/L, therapists in the Chimacum School district asked other professionals and parents of disabled children to come together to help with creating the first accessible and inclusive playground in the County.  Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Director Matt Tyler was supportive of the project and helped us find a suitable location at HJ Carroll County Park.  He also informed us that the County had no funds to build any playgrounds, or adequately maintain the existing playgrounds, so we would need to raise all the funds to build and maintain the playground.  In January of 2017 we found a 501c3 fiscal sponsor with the Mike Beery Memorial Children's Fund (MBMCF) and are working on raising the $220,000 needed to build JUMP!  Please visit for more info.

John Polm, the Port Townsend School District Superintendent and Sarah Rubenstein Maritime Discovery Schools Initiative and Communications Director will update us on the Maritime Discovery Schools initiative in the district.  We are in the fourth year of the initiative to embed maritime and place-based learning across the preKindergarten to 12th grade curriculum. We have a short 10-minute video and then a few updates to share about the progress of the initiative, and will share how volunteers can get involved if they wish.
